FAQs

How long does it take for your milk to be delivered to the vending machine?

Unlike shop bought milk which can take up to 2 weeks to reach your fridge, we aim to have our milk available for you to take home within 4 hours of the cows being milked. Amazingly Fresh from MOO 2 YOO!

Can I bring my glass bottle back for a re-fill?

Yes of course. By re-using your beautiful glass bottle, you’re helping to reduce plastic waste and being environmentally friendly. As long as your bottle has been cleaned you can bring it back as many times as you like!

What is dairy cake?

We’d love to tell you that we feed our cows homemade sponge cakes every day! However, they much prefer our version of a biscuit which is called ‘dairy cake’. The cake comes in the form of small palatable pellets that are designed to compliment grass fed cows and help them to utilise the nutrients found in grass.

What is pasteurised milk?

This is the process of heating milk up very quickly and then cooling it down again to kill any bacteria that might be present.

There are also three other forms of processing milk: Separated milk is the milk left over after the cream has been extracted using a centrifugal device. Standardised milk is firstly separated then re-blended to create the precise amount of fat content needed for whole, semi-skimmed and skimmed milk.

Most milk is then put through the process of homogenising aswell, where the larger fat globules are broken down, so they can be distributed evenly. This then prevents the cream rising to the top.

Do your cows have a break from being milked?

Most definitely! We give our cows 60 days holiday per year. This is known as the ‘dry cow’ period, like human maternity leave. The cows have a complete break from milking and are fully rested before giving birth.

Just like humans’ cows can become pregnant at different times of the year which also dictates what time of the year they have their ‘maternity leave’. During the winter they are given the same deep straw bed shelter as the cows that are being milked but are just kept in a separate shelter so that we can keep a close eye on them. This is the same during the summer months except they are still out at grass, just in a paddock close to the farm. Again, we adjust their diet slightly to provide them with the extra nutrients needed to grow a calf.
